Driving From the Back Seat

Dreamed on August 5, 2026

I was steering from behind the driver's seat, reaching through the gap, and this was normal. It was a long straight road and the car was doing about fifty.

My cousin was in the passenger seat eating chips and giving directions that were correct but arrived slightly too late — turn left, after the left turn. I didn't complain, because I could see the road fine and I had a system.

Then the road became one of those multi-storey car park ramps, spiralling, and I remember thinking that this was actually easier, because the walls would keep me roughly right.

I woke up when the car stopped. Nothing crashed. I want to stress that nothing crashed.

Laughing at the last part, and slightly wired for an hour.

The ramp is the good bit. You said it was easier because the walls would keep you roughly right.

Reaching through the gap from the back seat is absurd and you handled it with a system. The spiral, which would frighten most people, you experienced as a relief — because the constraint did some of the steering for you.

That's a fairly specific preference, and it shows up in how you told the story. You'd rather be held in place by structure than have to hold the line yourself.

I read the cousin differently to how I expect most people will.

Her directions were correct but late. That's not sabotage and it's not incompetence — it's the experience of being told the truth after it stops being useful. And your response was not to complain, but to compensate.

Small thing, and possibly nothing. But you mention twice, in a short entry, that everything was fine.
